Bariatric Foodie Pledge - WEEK TWO CHECK-IN

Week Two Check-ins are now CLOSED! Please click here to pledge for Week Three!

PLEDGERS!

Week TWO! Did you make the same pledge as week one? Different? Either way, it's time to check-in!

Remember you MUST check in to be eligible for this week's prize drawing where three pledgers will win $50 gift certificates for Building Blocks vitamins!!! (FOR EVERYONE: If you'd like to get a free sample of Building Blocks, click the ad on the right menu!) Remember, you MUST check in to qualify for the prize and you have until 12 p.m. (EST) tomorrow to check in!!!

Check-ins are pretty simple. Just remember these two things to make your check-in a success:
  1. Check in the same place you pledged (Not sure where you pledged? Check here!)
  2. Use the same name you used to pledge
HERE’S HOW YOU CHECK-IN

You need to restate your pledge and then answer these three questions:
  • Did you achieve your goal?
  • What challenged or inspired you?
  • How will you keep this goal going?
For my goal, for instance, I might say, “This week I took the Bariatric Foodie Pledge to run three times this week. I did not meet my goal because I threw out my back, which was a challenge. To keep this goal going I'm going to visit a chiropractor and get some decent running shoes to prevent injury!"

Please note even if you didn’t achieve your goal, you are eligible for the prize drawing but you MUST check-in!!!

For Facebook Pledges: Please post your check-in directly on the Bariatric Foodie Wall. After you’ve done that, please hit the “reshare” link to share it with your friends. (Or if Facebook doesn't give you that option, simply copy your check-in and post it as your own status update.)

For Blog Pledges: Please post your check-in as a comment to this blog post. I have removed the moderation from the comments through Monday, when the next round of pledges are due. Therefore, you should be able to see your check-in right away.

For Twitter Pledges: You can break this up into several tweets, but please tag @Bariatric Foodie on each one so I can see that you answered.

You have until 12:00 EST tomorrow, Sunday February 12, to submit your check-in. Please note that this is also when I will start accepting Week Two pledges and there will be a blog post saying more about that.

I’ll announce the winner of the prize drawing Sunday evening. Again, thanks to Building Blocks Vitamins for sponsoring this week's prize for our THREE winners: $50 gift certificates to purchase vitamins!

Good luck everyone and thanks for participating!!!

This week I took the Bariatric Foodie Pledge to drink 64 oz of water this week. I did not meet my goal because I was not able to get a bottle/glass of water every time I ran out, which was a challenge. To keep this goal going I'm going Have 3 bottles/glasses of water with me at all times, so when I finish one, I have another ready.

I pledges to track my food all week, to insure that I was meeting my protein goal & controlling carbs per my plan. Did I achieve my goal goal? I tracked every bite 4 of 7 days, had 3 days without internet & got lazy. So no I did not.
What challenged or inspired you? No internet challanged me. But the real challange was in being honest with myself - I became aware of how much grazing had creeped back into my life. Ouch!
How will you keep this goal going? I am using this new awareness & am pledging to track again this week and to limit eating to my planned meals & snacks.

For week two I pledged to go to the gym three days this week
Did you achieve your goal? I missed the goal by one day, I only made it two instead of three.
What challenged or inspired you? What challenged me was my work schedule and getting sick this week. I have to learn how to add the gym into my schedule better as some days are crazy.
How will you keep this goal going? I will continue at the gym and have made an appointment on Tuesday to meet with a personal trainer. I know by having a weekly appointment will help me stay at the gym and moving forward to my goal of toning after the surgery!

I can do this.. We can do this!!

This week, I pledged to walk longer and more consistently. I both did and did not achieve this goal.... I was more active overall, but did not walk more with the sole intent of walking for exercise. I did go out more and made sure I parked further away from stores and walked around the stores a lot. :)

This week my pledge was to walk at least 3 days. I did this, but I was challenged by not feeling well the 1st part of the week. I am going to repeat this pledge for week 3 and hopefully figure out a way to keep this going.

This week I took the Bariatric Foodie Pledge to snack better.
Did I achieve my goal? I did until yesterday, then ate all the snacks I passed on this week! It was terrible.
What inspired/challenged me? Yesterday's life events were extremely trying and I just ate through them.
How will I keep this goal going? I'm making it my goal for next week, too. I can do this!!

Whoops, I didn't follow the instructions, mea culpa!
This week I pledged to get all my vitamins in, every day.
* Did you achieve your goal? Yes!
* What challenged or inspired you? Remembering my mom, she had osteoarthritis and never got enough calcium. Calciums are the last pills of the day, so they're the hardest for me.
* How will you keep this goal going? I got some Costco Calcium Chews, they taste really good. One of those will be the last 'pill' of the day, so I'll be sure to get my treat.

Did you achieve your goal? yes
What challenged or inspired you? The challenge for me was remembering to drink while I was working. I work on a computer and literally have to stop what I am doing to take a sip of water
How will you keep this goal going? I bought myself a new cup ( pretty pink one ) and I am going to get a timer to remind me to drink during work hours - this week I used my phone . Also logging to my nutrition tracker helps

Poet_Kelly: My goal was to do something nice for myself every day, even if it was just something little. Yesterday was a bad day and it was a real challenge to focus on myself at all but I had to go grocery shopping and I bought myself some raspberries, my favorite good-for-me food. So I did meet my goal.

I took the pledge to chew chew chew.
I did not achieve my goal. I kept forgetting to chew. I have to do better.
What inspired me is that I am almost finished with my pre-op testing and I have to get ready for my life after surgery.
I will keep this goal going by asking my husband and daughter to remind me to chew chew chew.

This week I pledged to get in all of my vitamins, in particular calcium.

Did you achieve your goal? Nope. I can get in all the B vitamins and my multi, but I absolutely suck at getting the calcium in.

What challenged or inspired you? The challenge was remembering to take them. My iron is in my MVI so Icant take them all together. I tried setting a timer, which didnt work. But, what did work was getting a small container to keep them in so I could carry them with me all the time.

How will you keep this goal going? One day at a time. On an up note I have kept up the exercising goal I started. :-)

This week I pledged to drink a minimum of 4 bottles of water daily. I achieved this goal all days except for Monday. My challenge seems to be after work and weekends. I can drink no stop while at work where I can sit it in front of me and refill the bottle. Once I get home though I do not seem to drink any more. I'd like to keep this goal going but amend it to include drinking 2 bottles at home above and beyond what I manage to get in at work. I'll still keep the 4 bottle minimum.

This week I took the Bariatric Foodie Pledge to work out at least three times and I am proud to say that I met that goal and surpassed it! I was inspired by the crappy way I have been feeling and decided that I need to do something about it. I will keep this going by continuing to remember that my surgery allowed me to lose the weight....it is up to me to keep it off!

In week two I pledge to eat more whole food and scheduled my snacking. I didn't fully meet my goal. While I made good strides in creating from scratch meals, my snacks were side tracked by girl scout cookies.
Tomorrow is another day and i will keep trying. Yeah and the GS cookies when to to my co-workers so I won't be tempted.
Every day another step in the right direction.

This week I took the Bariatric Pledge to be more positive about myself and things around me. Along with the first wks pledge of eating healthier food.
Did you achieve your goal? Yes I think I have achieved my goal but it's been very hard!!
What challenged or inspired you? Life it's self challenged me. Just been a very emotional week for me.
How will you keep this goal going? I think this is something that isn't going to happen overnight and it's going to be a long life work in progress. :-) But it's all good.

This week I pledged to exercise 4 times. I will work out tonight and I will make my goal. I was inspired by the fact that I can feel changes in my body and I will continue to use that as motivation to achieve my goals!

I took the pledge to limit snacking for a second week in a row. It went better this week

Did you achieve your goal? I did better than last week.
What challenged you? Meetings and no time to eat
How will I keep this goal going? This is an ongoing struggle and it will be one of my goals next week as well. It takes weeks to get out of bad habits, and I will be writing this down as a goal for the next few months.

I took the BF pledge to eat less carbs and more protein.

Did I meet the goal: yes. I kept my carb totals to under 35% of my caloric intake all week.

What challenged me: Carbs (simple carbs) are my weakness. The are addictive so I try to stay away. I've noticed that the crackers were sneaking back in and that's a slippery slope that I don't want to start with.

How will I keep it going: Keeping up with my food logs will help me track my intake. Also, not buying the crackers and carb trigger foods. If it's not in the house, I can't eat it.

My pledge this week was to get my required exercise, and I have!! I have walked 4 hours this week and tonight will make 5. The colder weather has kept me idoors, but having a friend with me made it fun!

My pledge this week was to keep track of my food. I was mostly successful. It's a challenge to get enough calories in on my days of work, 1000 is just not enough for someone 15 months out I think. I will continue to try and keep track and find ways to get more nutrition.

My pledge this week was to get better about my protein intake, I have done this thanks to recipes from this blog. I am keeping up with this and my exercise. I plan to keep up with this by making a new recipe every week!! Thank you Nik.

I achieved my goal for a few days but I did not read the article that was written about the subject like I wanted to.
What challenged me was a NASTY stomach virus complete with vomiting and running to the bathroom all day for 2 days. Bonus? I lost 10 lbs...I know, I know, they will be back, just water weight, blah blah blah. Let me be happy. I am still sick :0(
I am going to keep this goal going by reading the articles available and keeping my journal faithfully.

My pledge for week 2 of the Bariatric Foodie Pledge was to increase my water intake to 64-80 ounces a day. It was far harder than I thought but I did manage to get at least 64 ounces (to include tea). I learned it is hard to consume that amount every day on a regular basis but I'm making it a personal goal to doit.

•Did you achieve your goal? No
•What challenged or inspired you? My challenge was trying to remember to drink the water after my 30 minutes wait after eating.
•How will you keep this goal going? I plan to get a timer so I can set it for 30 minutes after I eat.

I pledged to not lose my temper and yell at my family. I did fairly well. My daughter did really get to me once and I found my voice raising, but I got it under control. I plan to keep this going & keep myself in check. No need to yell. It doesn't accomplish anything but to raise my blood pressure! LOL

P.S. - Yes, Nik, I'm the same Brittany as last week. Sorry I forgot to email!

My 2nd week pledge was to exercise at least 3 hours this week. Either 3 - 1 hour zumba classes or 6 - 30 minute walks at lunch (or combo).

1. Did I meet goal? No
2. Challenges: lots of overtime at work this week so when I got home I was too tired, snow.
3. What will keep me going? I love Zumba, I feel better when I exercise. Next week should be a better week. On a positive note: I did continue with my week 1 pledge and tracked my food every day.

My week two goal was to keep my protein intake above 70 grams per day. I started out great, but as my work week dragged on I missed my goal by quite a bit on Wednesday and barely made it Thursday. I will try to continue to keep my levels up by eating a protein packed breakfast to start my day. I did keep my week one goal going which made me happy.

Yes! I managed to take my vitamins every single day this week!! It was hard because my memory is shot, and there are times when I cannot remember if I took them or not. I enlisted my supportive husband to remember if I announced if I took my nighttime vitamins or not. I am going to keep using my evening announcement as a way to ensure I am taking my vitamins.

I also continued going to the gym three days this week from last week. :-)

This week I took the Bariatric Foodie Pledge to the Bariatric Foodie Pledge to not overdo it even though I will be on vacation.

I achieved my goal!
I'm on vacation in a place with incredible restaurants and desserts. I did allow myself to indulge, but was mindful about how much and what I was eating.
I will be on vacation through next week and plan to keep going as I am.

This week, I pledged to get in at least 80oz of water every day. I only managed to achieve this on 3 days, but I did get the minimum 64oz on the others. I challenged myself on this one as a reminder of the importance of water and I will definitely keep pushing myself to improve.

Week two I pledged to drink more water. I can claim SUCCESS on this one. I even gave up my Starbucks for 4 days in a row just to get enough water in!!!!!

Angie said...

I did not make my goals of keeping track this week because of some other issues with extra doctors appointments, changing up insulin levels and food levels - I was so busy trying to figure out what I COULD eat and still keep my sugar levels down that number of carbs went out the window... But I will get back on track when my insulin is back to regulated, I swear!! :)

I took the Bariatric Foodie challenge to drink 64 oz of fluid a day and I succeeded! This was my second week trying and I bought a new water bottle that has really helped. I'm able to measure, it holds a lot of water, and the straw has a bite valve which keeps out extra air and allows me to drink more without getting burpy. It's still a challenge to make myself get up and refill it when it needs to be refilled but because I need to refill it so infrequently it has been working. I will definitely keep this goal going and feel like since I've been able to be successful at this I'll have more luck working on the other things that I still need to work on.

For week 2 I pledged to drink more fluids. Did I achieve my goal? I did not reach my goal of 64 ounces per day BUT I was drinking more than I normally do. So while the goal was not reached improvements were made. I'll take it!

This week I pledged to exercise 4 days...

I did not achieve my goal this week due do some personal things getting in the way, unfortunately.
I will try again this week because I really want to get back on track with exercising!

This week, my goal was to exercise 3 days at the gym and 3 days at home. I was able to complete the three days at the gym, and actually did four days at the gym, but was only able to exercise one day at home. The challenge this week was needing to be out of the house shopping for several hours a couple of days. I will continue this goal by being engaged in a workout challenge at work, and ensuring I do some form of physical activity every day.

I'm happy to report that I have been able to get in 6x at the gym. Wanted to go today but the grandbaby is here, that's a nice little workout in itself. LOL

Checking in. I have not met my goals. I had a fill and am having issues. Cannot get liquid in. Did not make it to the gym. Tomorrow is a brand new day. I will say that I have definitely been mindful with eating (or lack of) though.

This week I took the pledge to take my vitamins and log my food. I did a great job on my vitamins, but not logging. I am fighting a sinus infection and bronchitis this week and have been on antibiotics since Monday. I decided I needed to feed my body on Friday and Sat, and I feel so much better. I actually lost 1/2 lb as a result. I know that doesn't sound like much, but I stayed at the same weight until this morning.

BTW, I wasn't on the computer much this week, and only saw the list today. I am the Jennifer that pledged exercise then left my hockey gear at home and, due to shin splints, could not exercise daily. Sounds, like I am having issue lately.

I this week I pledged to drink either 70 or 65 oz of water or fluid everyday.

I ended up successfully completing, I did close to 80oz everyday!

What challenged me was that muy weight loss has been in a stall for a few weeks and I figured I needed to up my fluid intake since I was working out more.

I will continue to achieve this goal because before I go to bed every night I fill up bottles full of the amount of liquid I'm trying to drink the next day, it makes getting the liquids in the next day easier!

For my week 2 pledge, I pledged to drink at least 64oz. of water every day. I sucked. I didn't do it. Not one single day. I had a difficult time due to not making it a priority. All day I would tell myself that I needed to get some water and then would tell myself that I could do it later. Later became never. I am going to pledge the same thing next week. :)

I am sure glad that this week is over!

•Did you achieve your goal? Nope, not even close.

•What challenged or inspired you? Freakin cupcakes at work and lack of motivation. Only walked the steps twice.

•How will you keep this goal going? Change in mindset. I WILL walk the steps 3 times this week and exercise the other two days.
