2012 Bariatric Foodie Pledge - SUBMIT YOUR WEEK 4 CHECK-INS

Pledging for Week 4 is now CLOSED! Good luck to all this week's pledgers and thank you for participating in the Bariatric Foodie Pledge!

Well...we've come to the end of the road. For some of you, at least. This is the last week of regular pledging!!! So let's go over a brief timeline of grand prize week (more details on the grand prize competition on Sunday afternoon).
  • Today - Noon (EST) Sunday: Week 4 check-ins. If you check in during this time you will be eligible to win the week 4 prize. This week three lucky winners will get $35 to spend at Carb Smart online stores + free shipping!
  • By Monday at Noon(ish): I will post MY version of the Grand Prize Pledger List with instructions on (a) what to do if you feel like you should be on it but aren't and (b) what you need to do to qualify for the grand prize if you ARE on the list.
That make sense? Good! So remember, the Grand Prize Pledger list will not go up until at least Monday at noon (EST). TRUST ME...you will have time to do what you need to do, k?

Now...let's get back to Week 4 check-ins! Please remember that you MUST check-in by NOON (EST) tomorrow, Sunday, February 26, to qualify for this week's prize.

Checking in is easy. You simply need to restate your goal and then answer the following questions:
  • Did you achieve your goal?
  • What challenged or inspired you?
  • How will you keep this goal going?
So for my week 4 pledge I might say: "This week I took the Bariatric Foodie Pledge to get at least seven hours of sleep a night. I succeeded! I was challenged because I have a hard time winding down in the evening. I will keep this goal up by going to bed when my girls do!"

Check-in by the deadline (again, Sunday, February 26, NOON EST) and you will be entered for the prize drawing!

HERE'S HOW YOU CHECK-IN:

For Facebook Pledges: Please post your check-in directly on the Bariatric Foodie Wall. After you’ve done that, please hit the “reshare” link to share it with your friends. (Or if Facebook doesn't give you that option, simply copy your check-in and post it as your own status update.)

For Blog Pledges: Please post your check-in as a comment to this blog post. I have removed the moderation from the comments through Monday, when the next round of pledges are due. Therefore, you should be able to see your check-in right away.

For Twitter Pledges: You can break this up into several tweets, but please tag @Bariatric Foodie on each one so I can see that you answered.

I look forward to reading your check-ins! Good luck everyone!

Jennifer,

There is no check in page. You simply leave a comment on the blog answering the questions. If you mean the BF Facebook Wall, if you click the link it should take you there. Or if you already like BF on Facebook you should have it in your pages.

I pledged to plan/prepare healthy foods for myself & to stop the creep of grazing back into my life.
•Did you achieve your goal?
I feel successful, there were some unconscious mouthfuls, which I noticed mid-stream & was able to stop. I Did very well with the planning/prepping piece, and managed to get all my protein in and increase my veg consumption dramatically this week.
•What challenged or inspired you? I'm on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride emotionally with the news that I am losing my job next month, and am having to be hyper-vigilant about not using food to make myself feel better. Inspired by my daughter who was sleeved 2 weeks ago & her commitment to live her new healthy life style.
•How will you keep this goal going?
Planning for the week ahead & cooking on the weekend with my husband - cause it made both our lives easier & healthier through the work week. Not buying my fav graze go-tos anymore. Who did I think I was fooling? They were never for the "normies" in the house, they were for me... owning up & staying honest.
This has been a great way for me to refocus & tune up my program. Thank you Nik for providing the opportunity!!!

This week I took the Bariatric foodie pledge to eat healthy every meal even the working lunch. It was a success and I did a+ this week. I will continue to put forth the effort to eat healthy to maintain the life I was given back with the surgery!

Thank you!

I did good this week and worked out again 5 days and also got back to spin class. I also tried to eat intentionally and to pay attention to my emotions when I was not hungry but wanting to eat. I feel like I am on a good track this week.

This week, I pledged to get in at least 80g of protein a day. I was only able to achieve this on 3 days, but I'm going to continue to push myself. I know it will get easier as I get farther out from surgery.

This week I took the Bariatric Foodie Pledge. I pledged to do the 5dpt with slight modifications. I did really well this week! Much better than I had been on the other weeks. I feel I'm back on track and much more in control of my eating. Being nine years out, one would think I had this down but it is a constant challenge. This week I showed myself that I was still capable. And as an added bonus ... 6 pounds lost!!

This week I pledged to have fish no less then 3 times this week. I only made it once. We seem to be having a 'food fight' this week with everyone in the house. But I did fix 3 new recipes and they went over really well so thats a plus for me. I will continue to add fish into the meals around here. The hard part is only 2 out of 4 of us can eat it and so i end up fixing something else for the other 2. I also kept up my water for everyday of 96+ ounces.

My week 4 pledge was to take ALL of my vitamins. I was sucessful but it was pretty challenging to get back on a schedule with them. I will continue to program my phone alarm to remind me to take them. It also helped that I switched from the cocoa calcium lozenges back to the cherry ones. I think that I will try to keep making pledges for myself. It is great when I keep them, and they are a learning experience if I don't quite make it. Thanks Nik!!

This week I pledged to not overdo the carbs while on vacation. So far so good. I've been successful by bringing protein bars. They've come in handy. Thanks Nik for this last month of pledging. My hubby and I have gotten a lot out of it!

I did not meet my goal this week. I was challenged by being tired and not planning my food well enough. I will definitely try to keep this going by planning by food better next week.

My goal was to get in my protein, which should be 20 grams per meal. I did not meet my goal, as I wound up sick with a UTI / kidney infection. The medication they put me on (Cipro) completely throws off my med / food / drink schedule. I will work towards getting in more protein daily, and continuing my weightloss journey!!

This week I pledged to take my daily calcium/Vitamin d and my Iron pills. It was a struggle all week with this. I met my goal 5 of the 7 days. Those darn Iron pills are so hard to fit in with my work schedule. I kept forgetting them since you can't take them with dairy products - this is what I have during my breaks. I will keep trying - have to.

My goal was to carry a water bottle with me everywhere I went. And I did it! It was great. Now to always keep it filled! I found that I did drink more when the bottle was with me, but it emptied so fast! I will keep this up! Thanks for the motivation!

My goal this week was to keep from emotional eating... I did good most days, Tuesday I lost it and went off the band wagon, but got right back on!

I did get confirmation Tuesday I am doing something right with eating - we found out baby girl is BIG (over 7 pounds estimated weight with 4 weeks until my due date...) and I will likely not be able to give birth naturally... She has gained 2.5 pounds in the past month - BUT I have only gained 3... So, my weight gain is spot on with her and I am doing better than MY emotional state with weight loss and gain says...

All is good, I think I did better this week with emotional eating and eating what I NEED, not what I thought I wanted!!

Thanks Nik for making us make goals and TRACK them!!

I pledged to get all my vitamins in. I did well but got sidetracked with errands one day so i missed some calcium. Overall I think this week has been better than the last couple of weeks though. I will continue to try my hardest with taking the vitamins even if that means I have to set several alarms to remind me!

This week I pledged to drink 70 oz of water each day! I only succeeded one day at 70+....but I did keep around 60-65oz each day which was inspiring since it is normally such a challenge for me. I am going to keep up the habit and start to set alarms throughout the day so I can consistently hit smaller goals during the day to make it to my big goal for the day!

My main pledge was to walk 3 days, which I did. My secondary pledge was to continue drinking 80 oz water, which I also did. To continue on the water, I bought a bunch of different Crystal Light mixes. To continue on the walking, I guess I'm going to have to start bribing myself because I just don't like doing it.

Did you achieve your goal? You betcha I did! I worked out at the gym all week!
What challenged or inspired you? What inspired me was seeing the people that were bigger then me and older then me working out and loving it.
How will you keep this goal going I just will...I love how I feel after I go to the gym.

For Week 4 of the Bariatric Foodie Pledge, I pledged to get back to basics. I did great on eating more protein, lowering my carb intake and drinking more water but it was hard to get back into the exercise routine. Even though this is the last week, I plan to keep on practicing the basics so I can get those last 15 pounds off.

Again, thank you for the challenge!

This week I pledged to vary my meal content. I Believe that I was pretty successful with that as I tried a few new foods. I will continue so that I don't get bored with my food. Variety!

This week, I pledged to eat at least 100 grams of protein per day. I was successful in achieving my goal, but I often felt I was eating so much protein that I was neglecting to eat a lot of fruits & vegetables. I think balanced nutrition is important, but I want to continue to keep my protein numbers up, so I will continue experimenting to see how to accomplish both!

This week I pledged the trifecta; all the vitamins, at least 64 oz of water and exercise every day.
* Did you achieve your goal? Yes on the vitamins and water, no on the exercise.
* What challenged or inspired you? Challenges were job hunting and getting ready for my daughter to visit, I did count housecleaning as exercise as I 'dance' while I do it.
* How will you keep this goal going? I feel like the vitamins and water are a pretty sure thing, so I really need to TAKE THE TIME to at least get a walk in every day.

Thanks for helping me focus!

I did meet my goal of being nice to myself. I had several times during the week where I had to bite my tongue, but I bite I did!

I plan to continue my goal moving forward because me being nice to myself carried over to other family members. Everyone was more pleasant to themselves and each other.

This week I pledged to drink more water. While I didn't drink nearly as much as I should, I did increase my intake. I think this is going to continue to be a struggle for me... I will just have to force myself to do so.

epic fail :(
3 days this week I only had 16oz to drink. I forgot my multis at work and so none at all yesterday or today. Today I overshot my calories.
But I have done a mental reset and today I have had 64oz already, with a water in front of me now. My calories were not super high, 1200 instead of my goal of 1100 so I reviewed my food log and it will be easy - one adjustment - to get back to goal. I worked in my garden for a couple of hours and this is something that with March I will be doing daily. It's all good. Just not for my Pledge bragging rights :)

This week I pledged to get in my water and exercise. The work week was much more intense then I had planned. I did not make the exercise goal, but I did make the water goal.

This week I pledged to cut snacking and mindless eating. While I did better than the previous week I cannot say I have a good grasp on it yet. Daytime eating is fine, but my challenge seems to be after work and evenings. I've found that's when my energy seems to slump and my brain/head just tells me to eat. And once I start I seem to be caught in a vicious cycle of eating. I intend to keep working on this throughout the next several months even though the pledge is over. Regain is not an option!

This week, I pledged to get in at least 3 workouts and I did it!! I am really proud of myself for getting them in despite being sick! I will keep it going by sheer force of will.

Did you achieve your goal? I did better this week. I got in my calcium 80% of the time.
What challenged or inspired you? Just remembering it was the basic challenge.
How will you keep this goal going? Keep setting the alarm on my phone as a reminder to take my vitamins. Its obnoxious to those around me, but it is working.

Thank goodness this week is over. I pledged several things, met the majority of them and totally sucked at one of them.

Did you achieve your goal? Most of it. Did my vitamins and water. Didn't even go near the steps as work, but did a lot of walking.

What challenged or inspired you? Honestly, it was the challenge. While I usually did the things that were required, the challenge made me more aware.

How will you keep this goal going? It's been 9 months since my surgery and I am very pleased where I am. In order to maintain this, I must do what is expected - fluids, vitamins and exercise.

This week I pledged to workout 30 minutes / day .
Did you achieve your goal? Yes!!! I also continued to get in the 64oz of water daily as well
What challenged or inspired you? Body aches! honestly I inspired me - I really want to do this- exercise makes me feel and look better.
How will you keep this goal going? I feel better about myself and have more energy when I exercise and I had kind of forgotten about that :-0

this week I pledged to continue with the 6:10am workout, keep up with the water and work on the food head games.
I succeeded - I worked out, I drank my water and I did a lot of journaling - I also order a book about emotional eating.....but it's not here yet.
overall I was successful!

I think that I did pretty good with keeping on track with my goal of getting back to basics this week.
It was challenging because we had a couple of events to go "out" for at work this week but I think I made good choices.
I will definitely keep this goal going...it is a must!
